Driftwood
Meet the band

Laura is the lead singer in Driftwood, she started singing and song writing when only 10 years old. Since setting up Driftwood with Brian five years ago, she spends most of her spare time organising and promoting the band. She is now addicted to performing live on stage, and spends a lot of her time finding new songs for the band to learn, which keeps them on their toes!

Laura is a graphic designer by trade and likes to keep the website up to date and to promote the band. She successfully juggles all this whilst being a busy mum of two.

Entertaining an audience is what she loves best, and is always happy when in the limelight.

Driftwood co-founder Brian started playing drums whilst at school in the 70's and has fond memories of playing his first gig at the local youth club at the age of 15. Since then he has played in all sorts of different venues, from clubs and pubs, holiday camps and church halls to Chinese restaurants, wine bars and even a cinema.

Brian is a big 70s rock fan, and in particular The Who and Yes feature heavily on his i-pod, however he likes to think he still has his finger on the pulse and current favourites include Snow Patrol, Coldplay and Kings of Leon. Favourite drummers are The Who's Keith Moon, Stewart Copeland of The Police and Jamie Cullum's drummer Sebastiaan de Krum.

Brian is happy to play many styles and genres but always likes to use the dynamics of the drum kit to colour the music and to provide mood and expression. Listen out for those Keith Moon-inspired drum fills though.

Steve started playing the guitar when he was 15, and his first paid gig was a year later in 1974. Since that time he has played pubs, clubs, festivals and many functions.

Although his main instrument is the guitar, he can also play bass guitar, keyboards and is currently learning the mandolin! He's enjoyed playing in various set-ups from duo to eight piece bands, all of which he feels have their own attraction. Steve has also done his fair share of depping gigs, one-night stands, studio sessions and recording sessions with musicians and artists of all abilities.

Steve also teaches guitar and is registered with the Registry Guitar Tutors (RGT). His influences come from 50’s style Rock ‘n ’Roll, but providing the music has got a good feeling and a strong melody, then he is more than happy to play most styles of music. Bands and musicians that inspire him are too numerous to mention - but would include the following: Bruce Springsteen and The ‘E’ Street Band, Bon Jovi, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes, Gary Moore, John Fogerty, Eric Clapton, Steve Simpson, The Quireboys, Status Quo………. the list just goes on and on and on.

Jason started playing bass when he was 14 or 15 when his dad bought him a little 3/4 size guitar. He played it for a year, lost interest then picked up again a few years later as a hobby. He never really took it seriously until he got interested in country music on the old CMT (Country Music Television) channel. New country was the thing back in the nineties with musicans like Garth Brooks. Jason played with a local country band in Southampton for around 4 years, then moved to sunny Worthing.

His taste in music is firmly embedded in the seventies disco era and his bass idol is Bernard Edwards from the band 'Chic'  - "he is a funking god!" says Jason.

Following in his dad's footsteps Jason's son is a budding bass player and even plays in the school band - at least we know where to go if we need a dep at short notice! (Mmm... he is only 10 though!)
